GIS Day in Cyprus ¶

Every November, the global GIS community marks GIS Day — and QGIS Cyprus has taken part alongside local universities for several years running, helping bring internationally known speakers to Cyprus.

7th KIOS GIS Day (2025) — Mapping the Future: Digital Twins in a Real-World Context ¶

Hosted at the University of Cyprus (Room B108) on 19 November 2025, with keynote talks and discussions on how GIS and Digital Twins are shaping the future of infrastructure.

GIS Day 2024 — Cyprus University of Technology ¶

Keynote speakers:

• Prof. Steve Carver — University of Leeds
• Prof. Alison Heppenstall — University of Glasgow
• Prof. Ioannis Giannopoulos — TU Wien

Also featuring a keynote from Hans van der Kwast, GIS and Remote Sensing expert and long-time QGIS advocate.

GIS Day 2020 — GIS for Critical Infrastructure Monitoring ¶

QGIS Cyprus took part in “GIS for the monitoring and control of critical infrastructure systems”, organised by the KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus for GIS Day 2020, with George Ioannou and Philippos Fayad representing the community.

5th KIOS GIS Day (2023) — Mapping Everything ¶

Hosted at the University of Cyprus (Room B108), 22 November 2023. Keynote speakers:

• Steve Coast — Founder of OpenStreetMap, Head of Engineering, Geo Innovation at Grab
• Anna Labetski — Data Scientist, Ordnance Survey UK

GIS Day 2023 — Cyprus University of Technology ¶

Hosted 13 November 2023 at the Senate Building, Cyprus University of Technology (hybrid). Keynote speakers:

• Dr. Angelos Tzotsos — President, Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo)
• Dr. Linda See — Senior Research Scholar, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA)
