ImportPhotos: A Cyprus-Built QGIS Plugin Passes 500,000 Downloads ¶

ImportPhotos, an open-source QGIS plugin developed by the KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, has now passed 500,000 downloads with the release of v4.0.0 — QGIS 4 Ready.

The plugin reached 400,000 downloads with v3.0.7 in January 2025, and grew to over 500,000 by May 2026 — with downloads coming in from across the globe.

QSU2: Bringing CFD Simulation Setup into QGIS ¶

QSU2 is an open-source QGIS plugin, developed by the KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, that streamlines Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation workflows directly inside QGIS.

The plugin enables seamless export of .su2 files — essential for CFD simulations — providing an interface to SU2, the open-source CFD simulation and optimization suite developed at Stanford University. QSU2 simplifies the process of defining boundaries and conditions for fluid dynamics studies, making it easier to go from geographic data to a simulation-ready setup — useful for engineers, researchers, and professionals working on water systems and other infrastructure.

Using preliminary results from the Cyprus Statistical Service, this project maps population trends across Cyprus at the enumeration-district level — built entirely in QGIS and published to the web with the qgis2web plugin, no server-side code required.

QChatGPT is an open-source QGIS plugin that connects QGIS to ChatGPT, letting you ask questions, load data, and run Python — all from inside the QGIS console. It picked up 6,000 downloads in its first ten days.

What’s in v0.5 ¶

AI voice response
A microphone button for voice input, with a configurable recording duration
An option to stop voice response mid-playback
Saving the previous AI response for future reference
Executing Python code and integrating with the QGIS Python console
Support for data input via links, not just GeoJSON files
Completing questions using QGIS and QCode context
Editing the AI’s response before use — for example, tweaking a GeoJSON reply before adding it to the map
Whisper models for speech-to-text transcription
